This is a nice clear copy of an important book that's not otherwise in print. The text is sharp and easily readable. Many of the illustrations are a bit dark and/or blurry as is to be expected from the copy process.
This volume consists of excerpts from the journals of Archibald Menzies covering his three visits to the Sandwich Islands in 1792-94 as Vancouver's surgeon and naturalist. It has 6 pages of index and 199 pages of text.
Menzies spent more time ashore than most of the other crew. His observations of the land and people of Hawaii are those of a scholar rather than a naval officer and contain many insights not found in Vancouver's Voyages including many more Hawaiian names.
If you're reading about Hawaiian history or Vancouver's voyages, this is a wonderful companion book.
